Laura Burgess

26 April 2015

My alarm woke me up at 4.30 ready for the makeup marathon that was Laura's wedding. To be honest I didn't sleep much as I was super excited for Laura as she wanted as much sparkle as she could get, and who doesn't like sparkle?

Laura got married at the Menzies Mickleover Court hotel in Derby which is conveniently located just 20 minutes from the M1 and 20 miles from East Midlands airport.

Laura had also booked Gemma from Dream Bridal Hair so we traveled together and arrived at 6.30am, topped ourselves up with a nice cuppa tea then made a start.

To start the day we had Laura, her sister Lou and her mom Donna. Their children were still fast asleep in the other room, so that just left us short of Laura's step sister who was also bridesmaid and step mom.

It was all very manic to start as everyone's hair was wet from having a shower and only being able to share 1 hotel hairdryer. But it all calmed down not long after.

All the bridesmaids had the same coloured MAC shroom eye shadow and Urban Decays Naked to the crease, then black Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner and lashes of mascara.  The colours really complimented the colour theme of Bright pink due to their Skin tone. The foundations used were Estée Lauder's doublewear and my new favourite, MAC's face and body foundation and finished with a blush to complement their complexion and a peachy lipstick from MAC.

We had a bit of a break and had breakfast, I was treated to a yummy sausage sandwich and cuppa tea. We were then joined by Laura's stepsister Abbi and her Stepmom, everything was all running smoothly.

The bride’s makeup was next and i used Estee Lauder's Doublewear with MAC powder foundation. Laura wanted super dramatic makeup so I did a black and silver smokey eye using MACs eye shadows, glitter liners from Urban Decay and a black winged eyeliner from Bobbi Brown. Laura already had super duper long eyelash extensions on so didn't require Mascara. I contoured her face using MAC's sculpting powder and a Motives Blusher to the apples of her cheeks then finally used a Estée Lauder lipstick and a No7 lip gloss that smells good enough to eat.

When I was asking Laura what sort of theme she had, her answer was just "sparkles", and boy did she mean it, and that even included glitter spray on her hair. Laura had her hair put into a bun with a difference, it was gorgeous.

Laura showed me her wedding jewellery and it was all Swarovski crystals from her pretty bracelet and necklace to her earnings which were all purchased from a boutique in Derby. Laura already looked a million dollars and we were all excited to see Laura in her dress and when she emerged from her bedroom into the lounge you could have heard a pin drop it was so quiet. Laura looked stunning!

The wedding photographer Chris Mullane arrived and started to take some photos in front of the window which was a great shot so I photographed it as well.

Everyone was dressed and waiting for the wedding coordinator to come and collect the girls. I could see Laura’s nerves starting to kick in so I tried to keep her mind occupied. Laura was so excited to be marrying Mike who she met on a night out. They have 2 adorable children Tyler and Finley who looked very handsome in their suits.

Laura laughed aloud when she told me how Mike proposed to her while washing the car, he told her to go and fill the water bucket up again and when she returned he was down on one knee. She said she nearly threw the bucket over him as she was in utter shock.
There was a knock on the hotel door and everyone said "it's time".

The flower bouquets made by Passion Flowers in Derby were handed out which were made from Pink and white roses and looked so beautiful. The bridesmaids went down first with Laura's mom and children then followed by me.

We waited in the lobby for Laura to have her pre-marriage interview by the Registrars, so I took plenty of photos of the bridesmaids.

Laura arrived and everyone was put into order of entrance, the doors to the ceremony room opened and the music started. This is where I said my good byes. I felt so happy seeing Laura walk off to get married.

The wedding breakfast room was almost set up and was gorgeous. There was lots of waterfall fairy lights. Big martini glasses on each table with pink liquid with candles floating in them and a white and pink sweetie cart for the children in the evening. Laura's wedding cake was a 3 tired white cake with pink ribbon and petals surrounding it.
The wedding cake was made by Delicious Dishes in Swadlincote.

It was lovely meeting Laura and her family. Thank you for booking me to do your makeup.
